SACRAMENTS ARE EFFICACIOUS SIGNS
OF GRACE,
INSTITUTED BY CHRIST,
AND ENTRUSTED TO THE CHURCH,
BY WHICH DIVINE LIFE
IS GIVEN.
“The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church.
The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesial ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and oriented toward it."
- Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1407, 1324
Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the Real Presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.
Information regarding sacramental preparation through our Parish School of Religion (PSR) is available on our PSR page. For any additional questions, please contact the MHT Director of Religious Education, at 985-892-0642.
Adults interested in receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist (Communion) for the first time, please see Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
