“But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” (Mark 10:6-9)
The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. By their marriage, the couple witnesses Christ's spousal love for the Church. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.
